FR500C MUSTANG # 004

FR500C serial #004 debuted at the Grand Am Daytona 200 in February 2005. The newly developed FR500C Ford factory racecar were delivered just days before the race and with only 2 days of practice the 5 cars had secured a first and second place in the Daytona 2005 race for homologation. Champion Dealer Group Motorsports in Alexandria, Kentucky, a Ford Racing Products retailer, was given the opportunity to purchase one of the first 3 customer cars and FR500C #004 is one of the first 5 cars at the very first race at Daytona. Driven by Bradley Lehmann together with co-driver Ian Lacy, the team did remarkably well for a part time effort. The car was race for a couple of years and then retired. Only 46 FR500C have been built by Ford, with the price tag of $125.000. The car proved to be a true front runner in the Grand Am series winning the series in both 2005 and again in 2008 even though serious attempts to slow them down by adding more weight and changing rear end ratios were made. #004 has well documented race history as well as a documented history of being a survivor with no major damage and therefore one of only a few of the first FR500Cs still to have the original body. #004 made it to a 6 page feature article in the December 2005 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines Magazine. The original build book by Multimatic, as well as original invoice and race history documents are included with the car. Being owned by Scott Turner of New York since 2009, #004 has undergone thorough mechanical and cosmetic refresh to become a first class collector quality track car. The car was recently serviced by Black Forest Motorsports, a leading facility for FR500C knowledge, and it is ready to head to the track in every way. Full service documents including leak down test on engine are included. #004 is as perfect as they come. The car can be delivered world-wide.

1969 Shelby Mustang GT350 SCCA B Production Racing Car

Boss 302 cu in V-8 engine, Bud Moore Mini Plenum, four-speed Super T-10 manual transmission, independent front suspension with unequal length A-arms modified by Doane Spencer, coil springs and Koni Shocks, and Detroit Locker rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs with solid bushings, magnesium, American Racing 200S 8x15 wheels.

• Actively campaigned in period by Jerry Lecatse, Gordon Gimble and David Woodley
• Highly documented and will be featured in the soon to be published SAAC Registry as 1 of only 2 documented competition ’69-‘70 Shelby Mustangs
• Superb vintage racing candidate, SVRA Gold Medallion eligible

This car started its life as a Silver Jade C-6 automatic transmission GT500.  The car was delivered to Hayward Ford on January 7, 1969.  It was sold on August 28, 1969.  Some time after that date the car was stolen and wrecked.  The insurance company eventually declared the car totaled and the remains were purchased by ABC Auto Wreckers, San Leandro CA in 1971.  Jerry Lecatse was the owner of ABC and an active SCCA member.  He converted the car to the B/Production Competition Rules and raced the car until 1975.

Gordon and Nancy Gimbel, Roseville CA purchased the car from Jerry in 1975.  They both used the car to attend the SCCA Licensing School at Sears Point and received their racing licenses at that time.  Gordon and Nancy actively raced this car in SCCA Regional and National Events, NorCal Shelby Club and SAAC events through 1980 at Laguna Seca, Sears Point and Ontario Motor Speedway.

In 1980, Craig Woodley, San Rafael, CA became the third owner of 480033.  Left unchanged, he raced the GT1 car at Riverside International Raceway, Laguna Seca, Sears Point and Portland International Raceway.  After a series of broken motors, Craig put the car up for sale.

Since 1982, the car has been in the care of the current owner, who began a full restoration in 2010 and has enjoyed the car enthusiastically, returning it to its 1975 Gimbel livery and fitted it with a correct B Production engine, featuring many original Shelby and Bud Moore external and internal engine parts. It will surely prove to be a formidable vintage racing candidate for its next fortunate caretaker.

2008 Shelby GT500KR "King of the Road"
40th Anniversary model, finished in Silver with Blue LeMans strips

One of 1011 built
Shaker 1000
1450 low miles
Car is located in NYC

Here is what the press said back in early 2008;

Just like its namesake, the 2008 ‘King of the Road’ packs a walloping dose of Ford performance power under its massive composite hood scoops. The Ford SVT-engineered 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 is treated to a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack that boosts horsepower to an estimated 540 and torque to 510 ft.-lbs., thanks to revised ignition and throttle calibration and a cold air intake system that replaces the stock unit.

Calibration modifications include advancing the ignition timing as well as re-mapping of the electronic throttle settings to provide quicker throttle response for better off-line and mid-range acceleration. Increased throttle response will be met with a sharper roar from the Ford Racing-inspired exhaust system.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission and 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, upgraded from the standard GT500’s 3.31:1. Gear selection is courtesy of an all-new Ford Racing short-throw shifter making its debut on the KR. Topped with a white ball, the new shifter is 25 percent shorter than the unit on the GT500 providing for crisper, sharper shifts.

Ford SVT, Ford Racing and Team Shelby worked together to develop the KR’s suspension tuning. Based on initial work by Ford Racing and the team at Shelby, often at Shelby’s own facility on the grounds of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Ford SVT chassis engineers will apply fine tuning techniques to prepare it for the streets.

“The production Shelby GT500 was maximized to deliver the perfect balance between ride and handling,” said Jamal Hameedi, chief nameplate engineer, Ford SVT. “In that same ride versus handling continuum, the KR will lean heavier towards all-out handling while still making it drivable on the street.”

Chassis engineers worked closely with the engine department in a holistic approach to the development of the KR, tuning the suspension to best optimize the engine enhancements.

“We aren’t fixing our attention on one or two attributes, but working on the vehicle as a whole,” stated Gary Patterson, vice president of operations for Shelby Automobiles. “The throttle response, power delivery, exhaust note, and handling should all gel together to deliver a total driving experience.”

The GT500KR will feature unique spring rates, dampers, stabilizer bars, and strut tower brace, all designed specifically for the KR, to deliver the precision handling package.
